It's Groundhog Day!! Happy Groundhog Day?

General Beauegard Lee has news for Punxsutawney Phil.... No shadow for him!! Regardless...(and we all know winter isn't over for at least six more weeks anyway when March 20 rolls around, but if you want to put you're faith in a rodent, either way, who am I to stop you? LOL)

It's Groundhog Day!

Have fun with a quick Groundhog Day word search!!

Now..... A little fun with Father Guido Sarducci (I know this is a little irreverent, but honestly... who cares? It's the chuckle at the end).

It's Groundhog Day!!

Well, it's Groundhog Day, and for once.... Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow!!  I have to doubt Phil's sincerity in this endeavor, the fix must be in... We have spent the last three days digging out from snow and ice!  Illinois has suffered from one of the biggest snow storms in it's history, and now, Phil says it's going to be an early Spring.... r-i-i-i-i-g-h-t.  If you believe Phil, and I hope you're questioning his logic, winter will be over in a few short weeks.  Me, I'm not counting my chickens before they're hatched (or getting ready for Spring anytime soon).  I've been tricked before...

Happy Groundhog Day 2010!!

The Lore of Groundhog Day goes back for hundreds of years, arriving in America with settlers from Germany and France, going back to the Candlemas (the ending of Christmas with the Candle Mass). There is also the legend that Indians settling in the Delaware area believe that life started and ended with animals. Their ancestors would return in the groundhog or wood chuck. And so the legend was born, in one way or another. In the States, the legend says that if the groundhog sees his shadow, that there will be six more weeks of winter. As long as I can remember, the most infamous groundhog in the States is Punxsutawney Phil, has ALWAYS seen his shadow!

From Phil's own news release from Punxsutawney, PA (http://www.punxsutawneyphil.com/ -- he has his own freaking website)

Phil Says Six More Weeks!

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2010 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler's Knob on this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2010, Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators awoke to the call of President Bill Deeley and greeted his handlers, John Griffiths and Ben Hughes.

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers, Phil proclaimed, "If you want to know what's next, you must read my text. As the sky shines bright above me, my shadow I see beside me. So six more weeks of winter it will be."

I, personally, like to remember Groundhog Day with Bill Murray's 1993 classic film, "Groundhog Day" where the main character gets to relive Groundhog Day over and over again until he gets it right. Here's a peek at one of my favorites, Groundhog Day.

And some of my favorite scenes!
