Forever Vampire by Michele Hauf

Publisher: HQN, Harlequin Enterprises
Pages: 384

(Released: April 19, 2011)

From the Cover:

Vail the Unwanted is a pureblood vampire. But raised in Faery, he has neither home nor peace, and when his aid is sought in the recovery of a priceless diamond gown, his price is information.

Specifically the whereabouts of his accursed father. His goal is revenge, and the supernaturally sexy Lyric, the icy blond vampiress with whom he must work, is a distraction he can't afford.

Outwardly as cold as the diamond dress in which she was kidnapped, Lyric has her own secrets. Desperate to break free from her criminal family, she aligns herself with the brooding Vail.

Together they seek justice while each secretly works for freedom and a fresh start. For Lyric that means holding herself apart, even from the smoldering blue-eyed Vail. For Vail, it means a battle to the death for revenge—and for a temptress he can't deny.

Lyric can't stand her life the way it is, the pressure of her family, her mother, and her mother's fiancee. She sees an escape, if she can make it happen. If she can find a happy medium between the light and the dark. If she can survive. What the ice princess needs is the hope only love can provide.

Into her life comes the Vail, the Unwanted, an ickor addicted vampire who grew up in the Unseelie Court, and exiled when he takes what it's leader, the Lord of Midsummer Dark and his biggest enemy, wanted. He's the tracker sent to find Lyric and what has been stolen. Now, he has something else that the leader of the Unseelie wants, and it may lead to a battle between the Seelie and Unseelie, or it could mean his death.

Forever Vampire by Michele Hauf is the continuing story from Seducing the Vampire. Vail is the son of Vivianne and Constantine who imprisoned her after discovering he could never have what she had already given to his half-brother, Rhys. After raping her, he leaves her buried and aware, beneath Paris for 200 years. If is only by accident that she is released, and only Rhys can keep her sane. Vail, the dark prince, is the son born of that one-time union and taken in payment of a boon owned by Rhys to contain his duel nature. In this story, Vail as become the unwanted, turned against his nature and kind by faery. From his lifetime spent there, he has become addicted to ickor, fae blood. Lyric has grown up in a crime empire, her family is one of thieves and criminals. She wants to find a place without family pressures, and away from the Lord of Midsummer Dark who at first wants her, then only wants to kill her. When she is kidnapped, it is the perfect escape, until Vail finds her. Then she discovers the escape is the last thing she wants.

Forever Vampire is a sexy, exciting addition to Michele Hauf's vampire stories. If you haven't read Seducing the Vampire, I would start there to find out more about Vivianne and Rhys, and Constantine who wants to create his own empire. Vail and Lyric are a perfect match for each other, she's an icy white princess untouched by love, and he's the dark prince with forbidden desires. They are the hope for each other, without ever realizing it. Though compatible in many ways, the reader is left wondering what these two will do, and it's not revealed until the end of the story. Paranormal romance lovers will find a hard and fast love story, very nicely done and told only as Michele Hauf can. 4.5 out 5 fairy kisses, and as always, anything that Michele Hauf releases goes on my reading list. Can't wait for the next book!

Seducing the Vampire by Michele Hauf

Publisher:  HQN/Harlequin
Pages:  384

(Released:  December 21, 2010)

From the Cover:

In Marie Antoinette's Paris, the beautiful vampire Viviane seeks a male patron who will allow her to live on her own terms. Courted by two feuding brothers, Viviane succumbs to the handsome rebel, Rhys. She's unaware that Rhys has other, darker, motives. He seeks vengeance against his brother, Constantine—by stealing Viviane and tainting her with his blood.

But just as Rhys is realizing the depth of his love for Viviane, his brother takes his revenge. By casting a spell on the woman they both desire, he condemns her to a living death inside a glass coffin.

Two centuries later, Rhys hears the legend of the Snow White vampiress, imprisoned deep in the tunnels under Paris. He must find her and set her free, but will he be able to save her from the evil still intent on destroying them?

Viviane LaMourette is an independent young vampiress, barely two centuries old, bloodborn, and patroned to Henri Chevalier. He took her under his patronage with the death of her parents, but has allowed her independence, demanding nothing of the young vampiress. When Constantine de Salignac proposes taking her patronage, possibly a match and marriage to create a line of bloodborn vampires, pure blood, creating a tribe of vampires to rival all of Paris, she balks, she will answer to no man, nor bow down, vampire or not.

Rhys Hawkes spies the young vampiress in the salons of Paris. He's been sent to investigate the murder of a vampire couple, Henri and Blanche Chevalier, the very same patron of Viviane. Was this deed committed by a crazed werewolf? Rhys has more secrets, he is a half breed, born half vampire half werewolf. When he scents Viviane, he realizes he has to have her as his own. Will she be able to accept his wolf? Will his vampire allow him to love the vampiress?

When Lord Salignac discovers the half breed's intentions, he reveals the well kept secret, and that Rhys Hawkes is his own half brother. Though, Viviane has been tempted by Rhys, she rejects the truths he has hidden. Can he win her back? Will Constantine de Salignac allow his brother to have what he demands as his own?

Seducing the Vampire by Michele Hauf tells the story of what happens to an independent woman, before her time. It's a time when vampires and werewolves shared the title as the Dark Ones. Women were subservient to men, even vampiresses. The male vampire was not demanded to seek out a female vampire for life, but the female of the species was depended upon the male for survival, forced to partake blood from the male or die. It is the same for Viviane, but her patron demands nothing more, Salignac demands submission, sex, and bloodborn children. She will be nothing more than a brood mare. She rails against his demands, refuses him. Then, suddenly Henri is gone, as will be her life if she does not take another patron. Salignac wants to fill that role. But Rhys discovers an awful secret, one that will bring Salignac to his knees, if he can nail the bastard down, how could his own brother commit such a dastardly deed? Viviane can see no one other than Rhys, even with his half blood, he is more of a man than Salignac can ever hope to be. When Salignac sees he is going to lose to the half blood abomination, he acts quickly and horrifically. While Rhys is sating his wolf, Salignac is committing a horrible crime.

Seducing the Vampire is historical paranormal romance, a story told in two different times, jumping from the past to the present to render a heart wrenching story of loss and hope. It is the retelling of the Snow White story with the vampiress as the poor maiden thrown into an aware paralyzed sleep by an evil Lord and his warlock underling for more than two centuries. When Snow White is awaken, she is near crazed with a bloodlust, lost to herself. It is only through love that she is able to find her way again. Michele Hauf was written wonderful retelling of the Snow White story, but it's not the Disney version, it's much more frightening and evil. It does take the handsome prince to bring his beauty back to life, to live once again within the society of humanity. If you're a fan of historical romances, this is an unique story with all the elements of a good historical. For all paranormal romance lovers, this one fills the bill, a love story to stand the test of the times. And urban fantasy fans will find this as a vivid imagining of the Snow White story where a dark world is created with the beginning of a light world to reveal witches, warlocks, familiars, faeries, vampires, and weres as well as the mortals who wander among them.  Ms. Hauf mentions some favorite characters from other stories to tie the series together. If you enjoy Michele Hauf storytelling, this is one not to be missed, she combines the past and present to create a excellently told tale, it was a page turner to the end. I very much enjoyed it as I have most of Ms. Hauf's books, and I'll be waiting for the next, Forever Vampire, May 2011. For more information about Ms. Hauf or her books, please visit her website.

Her Vampire Husband by Michele Hauf

Publisher:  HQN / Harlequin Enterprises
Pages:  368

(Release Date:  4/1/10)

From the Cover:

An arranged marriage between a werewolf and a vampire.

There will be blood.
She may resist his bite, but she can't resist his charms...
Werewolf princess Blu Masterson won't allow her seductive vampire husband to consummate their marriage with his bite, marking her forever. Alone in a secluded estate with her sworn enemy, Blu curses the marriage arranged to bring their rival nations together, especially since Creed Saint-Pierre calls out to her most feral desires.
When Blu uncovers her pack's secret plot to destroy the vampire nation—and Creed—she is forced to confront her growing feelings for her sexy undead husband. Will she choose the only life she's ever known or accept his vampire bite?

Blu Masterson, werewolf princess and the only female of the northern pack, has been promised in marriage to a longtooth, the elder tribe leader, Creed Saint-Pierre.  This is a move between the governing Council and her conniving father, Amandus Masteron to bring peace to the struggle between the vampires and the werewolves.  But Amandus is always scheming in the background, more than his beautiful and mistreated daughter can ever know.

Creed Saint-Pierre, 900 year old vampire, has seen more than most even in his own kind.  He accepts this sham of a marriage because the Council wants it to be so, and if he's in control, he can orchestrate his own plans behind the farce marriage.  What Creed doesn't expect to happen are the feelings he thought long dead that the saucy werewolf princess evokes.

What can one vampire and werewolf hope to accomplish, the battle between wolf and vampire has raged for centuries.  Even if they fall in love, even if she accepts his bite, even if it means his death.

Her Vampire Husband by Michele Hauf is a very quick, very sexy, very fun read.  I loved Michele Hauf's sense of humor, her struggle to right the wrongs, and do it all with a playful sexuality, almost like dark little sexy romp.  I fell in love with Blu Masterson, her outrageous little stunts hiding secrets.  I fell in love with Creed because he could wait out the princess, give what she needed and only took what was offered freely.

Blu Masterson should have had it all, the only werewolf princess, hell, the only female in her pack.  She should have been revered.  But the dynamics of her pack are as sick as her father's misguided beliefs.  Creed Saint-Pierre, centuries old vampire, was turned against his will because of his ability to wield a deadly sword, one that the ancient vampire society sought to use against the wolves.  He's hunted werewolves and killed indiscriminately for more than a few of those centuries.  And still the wolves and the vampires are deadly enemies.  If only the marriage could accomplish what it set out to achieve, peace between the battling nations.  But each faction schemes against the other, unknowingly at first, but as Creed and Blu become closer, the secrets are revealed.  The creep out factor has to go to Amandus Masterson, a supremely evil creature that at the beginning of the book, had outlived his usefulness, if his miserable soul ever had a use.  His ability to use and abuse his daughter made Blu's story that much more poignant and heart breaking.  And along with her outrageous stunts, wigs, outfits and sensuality, this vulnerability is what draws Creed to her, into her, to become part of her.  It's Creed's ability to calm the beast, love the beast, and see passed the scars that draws Blu back again and again, each time revealing more.

Her Vampire Husband, part of her Wicked Games Series, brings back some of the characters from her previous books, The Highwayman (WG #1), Moon Kissed (WG #2), and After the Kiss (WG #2.5), most notably the sexy and tortured werewolf, Severo.  Her Vampire Husband (WG #3) has a prequel with Alexandre and Veronica's story in Vampire's Tango (WG #2.5).  All of these books and short stories could easily be read as stand alone books or if you'd like as a series, but the enjoyment of the books are not depended upon each other.  All have a magical quality, fae beings (Michele like the faery dust, but not your usual faeries), as well as other paranormal beings as supporting characters.  If you enjoy paranormal romance, urban fantasy, or just a hot little read, try Her Vampire Husband.  I was able to read from cover to cover in a single day, it was hard to put down.  I very much enjoyed this quick read and hope others give it.  With each book Ms. Hauf grows as an author, her voice clearer and keener.  I'll hoping that this series continues, I've been enjoying it and I wait to see what else Michele Hauf has to offer her readers.

I received this book from the publisher, Harlequin, and Net Galley for review.  All opinions expressed are my own.

Reviewette: Faeries Gone Wild ~ Dust Me Baby, One More Time ~ Michele Hauf

Pages: 173 - 274
Publisher: St. Martin's Press

From the Cover: A librarian by day and a tooth faery by night, Sidney has absolutely no time to find Mr. Right. Until she flies smack dab into sexy, sun-bronzed Dart Sand, a man who makes her wings a-flutter…and whose allure could get her banished from the Mortal Realm.

Sydney is a tooth faerie with a fetish for the Mortal Realm. She loves it, hasn't visited Faerie in decades. Why should she? There she's just one more of the many children of the Tooth family. The Mortal Realm rocks, where else could Sydney be on her on? As long as none of the rules are broken and she doesn't rock the boat....she can stay in the Mortal Realm. If only she could find someone that would twist her sheets!

Dart Sand is a sandman, no one escaped his notice, everyone who needs dusting was dusted, regularly. The Mortal Realm was fine and he planned to stay here. When he noticed Sydney, he wasn't sure if she was real or not. She didn't look faerie, maybe she'd spent too much time in the Mortal Realm, pretending to be mortal. But, there was definitely something about her.

The mothers of Sydney's town have decided that Santa Claus doesn't exist, they've run off the Easter Bunny, and now it's Sydney's turn. As she tries to go on her nightly retrievals, instead of teeth, she finds a note. "My mom says the tooth faerie doesn't exist." She doesn't know what to think, the moms are trying to run her out of town. Well, this is just not happening!! No Way! As she returns to the sleeping child, pow! She runs right into Dart Sand and promptly gets dusted. Out like a light!

Dart can't believe his eyes, who's the beautiful faerie? He can't resist, as he bends down to put his lips to hers, and, pow! again and this time it hurts.

As Sydney brushes herself off, who should she see? It's none other but the ever sexy sandman, Dart Sand. Talk about a sheet twister! Well, it served him right to get punched, kissing unconscious faeries! If only she could take a chance and kiss him for real, but that would be breaking the rules. What can a tooth faerie with a major need for love to do?

Dart wants to get to know Sydney better, but he's afraid to get too close; he has a secret that he doesn't want to spread around. He has a slight problem pre-ejaudusting. He gets all excited, hot and bothered; and before he knows what has happened, he's dusted his lover; never fulfilling his needs or hers. He dusts too early. What's a sandman to do?

Dust Me Baby, One More Time by Michele Hauf was fun, completely and totally! I had a blasted, laughing until the last page. I loved Sydney Tooth, I could just see her stomping her little faerie foot, refusing to take what they're trying to dish out to run off all the supernatural creatures. Dart Sand was hot, all the flower faeries thought so, if only he could control his dust. I mean, it's great to get dusted when you can't sleep, but bad when you're trying to twist the sheets. How are our hero and heroine going to get together you might wonder? Well, there are tricks that every faerie has to learn, right? This little novella was all about having a good time and maybe finding true love, and if that's what you're after, as well as a little hot sheet twisting romance, then Faeries Gone Wild and Dust Me Baby, One More Time is the book for you. I love how the faeries are mortal tall by day, teenie tiny by night to make their rounds, with beautiful wings that shimmer with a translucency. Great use of imagery. So far, I can highly recommend this book, and I'm sure the last story will be as great as the first three! If you haven't checked out Faeries Gone Wild, then what are you waiting for?? For more information about Michele Hauf and her fun reads, please check out her website or her blog. And don't forget about her free read.

Michele Hauf has also just released the new cover for book, After the Kiss, a Nocturne Bites.

The Highwayman by Michele Hauf ~ Review and Contest!!

Publisher: Silhouette, Harlequin
Pages: 288

(Release Date: July 2009)

From the Cover: Max Fitzroy, the legendary Highwayman, had slain scores of demons with a razorlike whip and a burning need for revenge. Now, to rid himself of the demon inside him—who'd cursed him with immortality and stolen all sensual pleasures—Max needed a witch's familiar, the one creature he'd made a career of killing.

But the Highwayman wasn't prepared for the familiar named Aby. The sleek and sexy conduit to the demon world saw past his swirling shadow as easily as he scaled the walls she'd erected to protect herself. Max needed Aby to grant him his freedom, and then he needed to slay her. But how could he destroy the only creature he'd desired in centuries?

Max is at the end of his whip, the demon shadow residing within his body is demanding and shadowing is getting harder. He's afraid that one slip of a shadow and the demon might take over. He needs a familiar, one who can help him shed his shadow's existence. But, his reputation for killing demons and the familiars who bridge those demons into this world has preceded him. The shadow has been with the one-time renown thief known as the Highwayman since Paris 1758 when a witch failed the capture a bridged demon.

Aby is a familiar, a young feline female shifter who can bridge into the demon realm and bring demons into the human realm. To do this, she must be completely satiated and not by food. But what she's looking for is love, human contact and emotion to complete her life. Sex is part of her job, now she want love to be her life. She's on her fourth life, with no memory of the past three. She doesn't know if she's ever known love.

Max's demon shadow makes it impossible for him to live as a human, no food or drink, no sleep or dreams, no sexual fulfillment . The only respite he has is to let his human form turn to the shadow, but always at a cost. He can visit the dreams of unsuspecting sleepers, but never sleep or dream himself. Exceedingly tall, sexy with rock hard abs, he attracts attention wherever he goes. His demon demands that he take the precious jewels found on the necks of his eager temptresses. His gift has been immortality, to watch time fly by, but is it a gift or a curse?

Red haired with green jeweled eyes makes Aby hard to miss. Sensuality flows from her body, humming through her surroundings. She's good at her job, but she's also tired of just serving a purpose. She needs to be loved, wanted for who she is, not for what she can do. Severo, her wolf protector, would love to claim her as his, but this is not to be. She wants to feel more independent, but has the skittishness of a cat. Her gift is that of nine lives, but if she doesn't live her life on her terms, is she really alive?

Aby realizes that Max became infected with the demon after satiating another familiar long, long ago with his highwayman partner, Rainier. If Max is to be rid of his demon shadow, Rainer must be located and persuaded to give up his half of the demon too. But Rainier disappear 250 years ago and Max will have to search all of Paris to find the other half of the devilish highwayman pair.

The Highwayman by Michele Hauf was an excellent read. This story is all about our hero, Max Fitzroy and his struggles to live beyond the demon that has become part of his life. He's lived for 250 years without pleasure and he needs to find a release, or he will go mad. He has searched far and wide for that release and Aby may be his last hope. Aby, our sexy feline heroine, has become independent and doesn't want to have to rely on others. The problem is that she's an innocent to the world, having come into this life as a teenager without memories. She really wants to help Max, but can she trust him not to take her head? Can Max put his trust in a familiar who bridges the one thing he has sworn to kill? This was a fast, fun read perfect for the hot days of summer. It has action/adventure/romance galore. I enjoyed it immensely and would recommend any of Michele Hauf's books for paranormal romance reader. This book happens to have a lot of historical aspects as well as contemporary, so it should please a wide range of readers. It is part of Silhouette's Nocturne series, Wicked Games, Number 68.

For more information about Michele Hauf's other fun books, please visit her website or her blog, Dusted. She also has a free ebook read at Harlequin, Kiss Me Deadly part of the Bewitching the Dark Series, click here to download. (Release Date: September 2009)

From the Cover: Escaping from bloodthirsty vampires, Belladonna Reynolds ran straight into the arms of a werewolf. As a man, Severo drew her in with his dark good looks; as a beast he astounded her with his insatiable sensual appetite. Whether afraid or aroused, Bella fled to his lair when threatened by an evil monster of the night ....
