Good Friday Morning to the Blogosphere! I can't really even believe it's Friday again already. Where did the week go? Have I even slept? If I have, I sure don't remember it!

And since it Friday, it's time to answer the picture prompt....

Dragons!!

A Dragon's Tale
by Dottie Taylor
word count: 350

For so long, the dragon had rained fire from the heavens. The King who ruled the realm had outlived his many wives and many of the peasants, but never did he try to stop the dragon. He watched as it roared unfeelingly.

One day, a mighty eagle found the kingdom, a scroll clutched in his beak with the words, “Gavin McCleod – Dragon Hunter.” The King refused to respond, but his daughter, Princess Penelope by the last of his many wives, scribbled on scroll. “Please Sir Knight, destroy the beast plaguing our land and win my hand in marriage.”

Princess Penelope was known far and wide as the kingdom's crowning jewel and as well for her kind nature, earning the peasants' love.

The day of Gavin's arrival came, the peasants threw a parade. Princess Penelope gave him fragrant scarf as remembrance. Gavin, seeing the princess' beauty, demanded no other payment, and set about his hunt.

Gavin found a dragon filled with sadness. He approached cautiously. “Dragon, why do you burn and plunder? You have bought your death.”

The dragon heaved a terrible sigh. “Sir Knight, drive your sword deep within my heart, I have no further use for it.”

Gavin drew his blade, and then paused. “Explain.”

The dragon gazed at him with bleary eyes. “A hundred years ago, the King stole my eggs. When held by a mortal, life is extended.”

Gavin couldn't take the dragon's life and returned to the kingdom.

“Sir King, I cannot kill what you have created.”

Just then, the dragon burst through the castle walls. “Return my children!” Storming around the castle, the dragon discovered her eggs still whole, and swallowed them into her gullet, warming them with her embers.

“I shall leave your kingdom to never returned.” The dragon opened her leathery wings rising into the sky.

Without the eggs, the King crumpled into death.

Princess Penelope strode to Gavin, offering her hand. “Stay Sir Gavin, rule the land with me.”

And stay he did. The kingdom grew happy and dragon kept her word.

So folks, this is as light and airy as I get, LOL! Though most fairy tales was rife with death and destruction, most end in a happily ever after, as does A Dragon's Tale. I hope you enjoyed it!

Amy has already shared Monday's prompt with me, and may I say.... AMAZING!

I must say that I was not expecting you to go so light with this one! I loved the fairy tale style...almost like a 'Once Upon a Time'.

I'm excited to see what you come up with for next weeks! I'm kinda nervous about it, but I know you three will do awesome! Dark and moody for sure :D

Nice job, Dottie!
There's something so satisfying about fairy tales with happy endings and a good moral to the story to boot!! =)

Hi B!

Fairy tales are a favorite of mine, lol. Tried not to be dark.

I like that we had similar thoughts about the mama dragon, lol, great minds.
